Here’s How to Use Thyme to Fight Fibromyalgia, Arthritis, Hashimoto’s & Multiple Sclerosis

Health Virtues of Thyme

There have been many researches on the positive effects of thyme on our health. In the past it was often mixed in equal parts with lavender and spread on church floors. This habit was followed in the Middle Ages in order to remove unwanted odors. Later on, this was proven to be very efficient in the fight against various bacteria. Namely, the scientists at the Department of Medical and Health Microbiology, University of Medicine, Lodz, Poland carried out a study on this effect. They have analyzed 120 strains of isolated bacteria from patients with infections of the oral cavity, respiratory tract, and genitourinary tract. These patients were given thyme oil and it was revealed that this oil is very effective against bacterial strains that are resistant to antibiotics.

Symptoms of fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis can be reduced by the use of thyme thanks to its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and muscle relaxing properties.

Wild thyme can be very beneficial in the reduction of blood pressure according to the researchers at the University of Belgrade, Serbia. They have found out that an aqueous extract obtained from wild thyme is efficient in lowering the blood pressure in rats. These are valid results as rats react to hypertension just like humans. Yet, there is a need for more tests so that this is more precisely confirmed.

The thyme essential oil derived from its leaves represents a natural cure for coughs. According to a conducted study, a combination of thyme leaves and ivy can alleviate coughs and other symptoms of acute bronchitis.

This oil can be very helpful against thrush according to the researchers at the University of Turin in Italy. They have come to the conclusion that thyme essential oil can substantially help in the destruction of the C. albicans fungus in the human body which is a common cause of yeast infections of the mouth and vagina.

Other conducted study at the Department of Medicine at Nova University in Lisbon, Portugal, demonstrated that mastichin thyme extracts can protect the body from colon cancer.

A Recipe of Thyme Tea

Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon of dried herbs (if you opt for fresh thyme, add more)
  • 1 cup of water

Preparation and use: In a teapot put the thyme and over it pour boiling water. Allow to infuse for around 5 minutes and after that strain it. Your thyme tea is ready for consumption!

Drink it on daily basis to reduce your chronic pain.

Note:

If you are allergic to plants of the family Lamiaceae, do not consume this tea. Some people may experience digestive disorders, and in those cases avoid its consumption.

Thyme contains a significant amount of vitamin K and if you have recently undergone a surgery or taking a specific treatment for blood disorders, then do not take thyme as it may increase bleeding.
