Marijuana or otherwise known as cannabis is a female plant used for centuries due to its medical properties.
It has been used and cultivated for hundreds of years in many cultures all around the world, but mostly frequent in Central Asia, where its use was present over 3000 years, namely it was even found 2 pounds of cannabis in a 2,700 year-old grave of a shaman.
Marijuana is classified as “a high potential for abuse … no currently accepted medical use … [and] a lack of accepted safety for the use of the drug … under medical supervision”, meaning that as a drug is equal as heroin. Therefore, it was prohibited for use, and the first records for this were brought by Congress with the Marijuana Tax Act of 1937.
Further on, in 1970 marijuana was classified as a Schedule I substance under the Controlled Substances Act of 1970.
On the other hand, drugs or opiates like cocaine and methamphetamineare also classified as Schedule II drugs. They cannot be taken freely without a doctor’s supervision. Anabolic steroids and valium are classified as Schedule III and IV drugs. Finally, analgesics fall under Schedule V drugs which are the widely used drugs all around the world.
Therapeutic Use of Marijuana
Authorities prohibit its use due to the illegal trafficking worldwide, and this prohibition has been active for 75 years. However, there is a new development regarding the use of marijuana as numerous experts are starting to examine in details the medicinal values of cannabis.
There are over 20,000 reviews and studies on the medical use of cannabis and one third of them have been released in the last 4 years.
As a result of that many people are realizing the medical effect of marijuana on numerous diseases. For the moment, cannabis is legally allowed for medical use in 20 states and in the District of Columbia.
Nevertheless, there are still harsh debates on the beneficial properties of marijuana on state and federal levels, but it seems that slowly but surely these health benefits are gradually being accepted as a result of the growing scientific evidence. All this evidence reveals that cannabis may have some potent medicinal properties which can be very helpful in the treatment of many ailments.
Regarding this issue, the former US Surgeon General and doctor JoycelynElders, wrote an article with a title the “Myths about Medical Marijuana” in Mar. 26, 2004,released in the Providence Journal, here are some quotes:
“The evidence is overwhelming that marijuana can relieve certain types of pain, nausea, vomiting and other symptoms caused by such illnesses as multiple sclerosis, cancer and AIDS — or by the harsh drugs sometimes used to treat them. And it can do so with remarkable safety. Indeed, marijuana is less toxic than many of the drugs that physicians prescribe every day.”
These statements continue, namely the national director of the American Alliance for Medical Cannabis (AAMC), Ray Cavanaugh, PhD, wrotean article in 2002 with a similar content titled as “The Plight of the Chronically Ill,” posted on the AAMC website:
“Many of the chronically ill have successfully sought relief with the use of medical cannabis, an age-old remedy that now shows real scientific efficacy. Hundreds of thousands of the sick have replaced disabling narcotics and other psychotropic medications with nontoxic and benign cannabis.
The anecdotal evidence is overwhelming. Folks with spinal injuries able to give up their walkers, AIDS patients able to gain weight and keep their medications down, cancer patients finding relief from the terrible nausea of chemotherapy, chronic pain patients once again functional with their consciousness restored from narcotic lethargy, and folks once disabled from crippling psychiatric disorders and addictions, returned to sanity and society with the assistance of a nontoxic herb with remarkable healing powers.”
The articles continued to be released on various websites, like the one posted on the ANA website of the American Nurses Association (ANA) in Mar. 19, 2004 with a title “Position Statement: Providing Patients Safe Access to Therapeutic Marijuana/Cannabis”, here is a small glimpse of what it stated:
“The American Nurses Association (ANA) recognizes that patients should have safe access to therapeutic marijuana/cannabis. Cannabis or marijuana has been used medicinally for centuries. It has been shown to be effective in treating a wide range of symptoms and conditions.”
Further on, the University of California Center for Medicinal Cannabis Research in 2010 research has come to the conclusion that cannabis shows beneficial qualities especially when inhaled. Researchers of this university have performed numerous trials where marijuana is emphasized as a potential “first line treatment” for patients struggling with neuropathy and cancer-related diseases. Under the neuropathy category fall pains that are linked to cancer, diabetes, spinal cord injuries, HIV/AIDS and other serious health issues. For each one of these ailments, marijuana has proven to be effective in lowering the symptoms of the disease and helping in its alleviation.
The positive effects of marijuana are still being studied all around the world, for instance there have been more than 37 trials in Germany, involving over 2,500 subjects. All these trials analyzed in detailthe safety and advantages of the use of marijuana. When we compare the trials for the other released drugs by FDA there are for sure less in number and not done in such concise details and involved participants like the ones done on the use of cannabis.
Marijuana has been researched in every possible way, starting to its healing abilities in cases of nausea caused by chemo to being freely used as an approved drug in the treatment of various diseases. It has been revealed that marijuana can suppress the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease, inflammatory bowel disease, multiple sclerosis, and rheumatoid arthritis.
The Powerful Combo: Cannabis and Coconut Oil
The combination of cannabis with coconut oil is only one of the medical uses of this plant without the need of inhaling it. The cannabis infusion into the coconut oil prevents direct contact with the liver, meaning easier body procession of the cannabis.
Both ingredients become a powerful mixture due to the powerful properties they have. Namely, the coconut oil offers a lot of essential fatty acids which can successfully bind the cannabinoids. Plus, this essential oil is extremely healthy as a result of the rich content of lauric acid.
This acid cannot be easily found in natural conditions, and because of that it is considered a compound with miraculous effects. It can be found in a mother’s milk, and then its minor amounts are present in butterfat and larger amounts in palm kernel and coconut oil.
Once the lauric acid enters the body it is converted into monolaurin, which is a powerful antibacterial, antiviral, and antiprotozoal compound. Monolaurin is basically a monoglyceride, and because of that it can easily treat ipid-coated viruses such as HIV, influenza, measles, herpes, and many other pathogenic bacteria.
There are so many true stories on the amazing benefits of marijuana, but in this article we shall present some of them.
The fist one is about Stan and Barb Rutner who have been fighting cancer for years. Namely, Barb was diagnosed with breast cancer, and her husband Stan struggled withnon-Hodgkin lymphoma, initially diagnosed 20 years ago. Stan received the regular treatment which thankfully was successful, but in 2011 the lymphoma was back, and this time more aggressive than ever. The cancer spread to his lungs and very soon it reached the brain as well.
Both of them used the conventional treatments like radiation and chemotherapy, but both spouses were trying to find out the natural treatment for this deadly disease, and they have found out the beneficial use of cannabis. Once they have discovered that the use of marijuana can help with the treatment of cancer, they decided to give it a try, and this trial has actually saved their lives.
The second true story is of the Rutner’s daughter, Corinne who was also searching for some natural treatment of cancer. She and her husbandresearched a lot regarding this issue and found out that a coconut oil infused cannabis is an excellent choice for the treatment of cancer.
Her father, Stan tried this combination and after only two weeks of use he managed to set himself free from theoxygen tank that he was attached to. Thanks to the use of this combo he gained the lost weight and restored his general health. After couple of months of use,Stan was free of the cancer as well.
Each member of this family is spreading the story of how healthy cannabis can be, especially, in the treatment against cancer.
The Rutners’ son-in-law, John stated the following:
“There is no doubt in my mind that cannabis pulled my father-in-law out of the wasting stages of cancer and enabled him to gain strength and in turn fight this horrible cell malfunction with success. While many would say that the chemo and radiation could have played apart, he would never have lived long enough to find out without cannabis oil.”
