Preserved Lemons: An Ancient Indian Remedy That Helps You Treat Many Diseases!

The North African and Indian cuisine often use preserved lemons due to the health benefits it provides. This type of ingredient could be used as addition to your favorite juice, smoothie, meat, salad, or any type of food you like. They are extremely healthy and you should definitely use it as often as you can. Here is how to prepare it:


  1. Lemon – 4-6 (organic)
  2. Sea salt – 1 tablespoon per lemon
  3. A jar


The very first thing you have to do is get rid of the stems in the lemon. Next, you should cut them deep in X shape at both ends. After you have done so, divide the lemon in half and put one tablespoon of salt in it. Do the same with the other half.

You should repeat this procedure with all lemons and afterwards place them into a jar. Also you should put some salt at the bottom of the jar, and press the lemons towards the bottom. On top of it you should squeeze some lemons as well and close the jar with a lid. Leave the jar for 3 days, but make sure that you press the lemons on daily basis.  Afterwards you should place the jar in the fridge and leave it for 3 weeks. After this time you should wash the lemons.

After 3 weeks you should remove the pulp and any seed that is left in the jar or in the lemon. Next, you should chop or mince the rind because this is what you will be using. Use this rind as addition to any of your food or beverage.
